| First used in 1922,
Spa is located 50 miles south of Liège in the Ardennes hills and has always
been considered one of the world's great racing circuits. The first car
Grand Prix was held in1925 and the track was consistently improved over
the years and eventually finished at 8.76 miles long. Every year the track
seemed to get faster and by the early 1960s it had a sad reputation, Archie
Scott-Brown, Alan Stacey, Chris Bristow, Eric de Keyn, Wim Loos, Leon
Dernier and Tony Hegbourne all lost their lives here and many others were
badly injured. The final Grand Prix held on this configuration was in
1970 when Chris Amon's March set a fastest lap of 152.07mph. The circuit
was then extensively modified and the Grand Prix returned here in 1983,
even now it is still one of the great circuits and just about everyone
loves to face the challenge of this track. Current Circuit Length: 4.358 miles |
